The remaining carbon budgets compatible with limiting global warming to 1.5 or 2 °C above preindustrial levels are shrinking rapidly. An already firmly anticipated, but highly controversial measure mitigate this challenge is the large-scale implementation of negative emissions, removing dioxide from atmosphere. Many currently considered emission technologies (NET) based on natural photosynthesis, associated large land footprints. Photoelectrochemical sinks, other hand, promise combine high conversion efficiencies versatile storage options. Efficient sink products differ typically for solar fuels, which will require novel catalysts and device designs. development efficient devices also has take into account climatic parameters local environment as especially ambient temperature affects operation. While still in an early stage development, drawdown by such artificial photosynthesis approach could be a valuable extension portfolio NET.
